2023 AZ Obamacare Maximum Out of Pocket
For the 2023 policy year, your maximum out-of-pocket exposure on an Arizona Obamacare plan is $9,100 for an individual, and twice that, or $18,200, for a family. Maximum out-of-pocket means that no matter how much your medical bills are during 2023, even if they total millions of dollars, you won’t pay more than $9,100 for one person or $18,200 for a family. That’s still an incredibly large amount of money for almost everyone to have to face, but that’s the rule for 2023 ObamaCare plans. Depending on your household income, you may qualify for a “cost sharing reduction,” a discount which lowers the deductible, copays, and max out of pocket on Silver plans.
Obamacare Copays
Many plans give you co-pays for things like doctor visits, prescriptions, blood tests, specialist visits, urgent care, etc. Everything you spend for those counts toward your out-of-pocket maximum. On most plans, you’ll never reach your out-of-pocket maximum unless you are hospitalized. You could go to the doctor every day and pay just a co-pay each visit on most plans, and never have to think about that $9,100 possibility.
Preventive Care
Obamacare plans are required to cover preventive care at 100%, including well-woman visits and child immunizations. They are also required to cover 10 essential health benefits, including maternity care, mental health, and substance abuse treatment.
Save Money with Premium Tax Credits and Non-Obamacare Plans
Depending on your income, you may qualify for a monthly tax credit that makes your plan cheaper. However, if you don’t qualify for a tax credit, there are other non-Obamacare plans available that might be a less expensive alternative for you. Those plans do not cover pre-existing conditions, but have access to a very large nationwide network and may be a very good option for you if you are in good health.
