Note: A policy with a higher deductible will cost you less per month than a policy with a lower deductible, and you'll usually only have to be concerned about your deductible if you are hospitalized. As an example, one of the health insurance companies we represent offers a plan with a deductible of $250 or $1000. The plans offer basically the same benefits except for the deductible, but the $250 deductible version costs almost twice as much per month than the $1000 deductible version. Since almost all health insurance plans available today provide doctor visits, lab tests and prescriptions for just a small co-pay without having to meet your deductible first, we recommend purchasing a plan with the highest deductible you are comfortable with.
